With the Moon culminating in the intellectually-oriented sign of Aquarius, we are drawn to explore our feelings on issues of ideology and dogma while we contrast these concepts with our aspirations for a more fun and lighthearted reality. Meanwhile, the Sun stationed in the opposite, energetic sign of Leo, creates tension by holding our collective focus on social leadership and outgoing interactions.Though we may want to have everyone just happily getting along together, we also need some real thought leadership including radical new ideas in order to truly develop our most noble purpose as we move into the future.
“An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.”
Buddha
At its best, the Aquarius energy feels radical, inspiring and thought-provoking, moving us back and forth between being with others and retreating in isolation. However, the contrast between the Sun’s position and the Moon’s placement can have us feeling as if we are caught off guard by provocation or sudden change, causing us irritation, anxiety, fear, and uncertainty. We can best navigate this time in honor of air sign Aquarius by being more curious and open to dialogue, as well as remembering to keep our wits about us and our sense of humor close at hand!
As always, these energies apply to groups of all sizes as much as they apply to individuals. So, be mindful about navigating balance between our thoughts about noble responsibilities and any feelings about wanting to be free from limitation or duty. The best advice is not about watering down either approach but rather it is about fully honoring all true perspectives, and finding good ways to meaningfully incorporate higher-minded ideals with proactive strategies to actualize your goals for the good of all involved.
The current pull between the Sun and Moon placement can instigate emotional intensity, impatience, and irritability. Should any touchy feelings come up, stop to consider other perspectives and find the common ground in awareness of the higher values of SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS, INNOVATION, and HIGHER-MINDEDNESS.The polarity between the Leo Sun and Aquarius Moon requires negotiating where we focus our energy; we must now hold space for considering new approaches while we also figure out how to manage and best utilize the creative practices we are already accustomed to.
“A pile of rocks ceases to be a rock when somebody contemplates it with the idea of a cathedral in mind.”
Antoine St. Exupery
Full moons are ideal times for reflection, celebration and contemplation about realizing and appreciating what is working in our lives. It is also a good time for identifying anything that is less than desired to simply release and let go . . do this over the next couple of weeks during the waning moon cycle for best results. Any practices that inspire self assessment and emotional growth are especially powerful at this time of month, and answering timely questions is a great method to accomplish these goals.
Questions for AQUARIUS FULL MOON:
- What can you do to stretch beyond the familiar?
- Where have you considered new approaches?
- What is most needing creativity and innovation now?
- How can you gain greater curiosity and openness?
- What can you let go to allow more joy and surprises in?
- How can you most easily remember to maintain noble higher-mindedness in all situations?
Simply reading the questions can bring inspiration. For even more clarity and growth, consider writing down your responses. Writing activates a deeper part of our consciousness. For greatest benefit and personal mastery over time, keep a journal, which gives you something to look back on.
Aquarius moon energy is always a great time for brainstorming, thinking, studying, reading, imagining, designing, planning, inventing, and wondering about the future.
“An invention has to make sense in the world it finishes in, not in the world it started.”
Tim O’Reilly
This Full Moon brings illumination and that often appears through any of Aquarius’ preferred subject areas, which include: GROUPS, networks, design,TECHNOLOGY, innovation, INVENTION, friends, ALLIES, neighbors, social affiliations, SOCIAL MEDIA, seeing the future, FORECASTING, astrology, numerology, INDEPENDENCE, freedom, liberation, FANTASY, shocks and SURPRISES, and in the body Aquarius rules the circulatory system as well as the lower legs: shins, calves and especially the ankles.
“There are no rules. That is how art is born, how breakthroughs happen. Go against the rules or ignore the rules. That is what invention is about.”
Helen Frankenthaler
It continues to be important to reassess outdated ideologies. These pivotal times are deliberately shaking up any misguided or faulty views and are meant to stimulate our collective growth. Humanity is moving forward and ultimately that means an upgrade; so contemplate what matters, and also celebrate all you have accomplished and learned recently, as well as anything you have done to stretch beyond your comfort zone.
Stay centered and consider new ways to leverage fresh insights and diverse ways of being . . this is a time to rethink old ideas about what you actually want and need, while realizing you actually have more access to your desires when you take into account the needs of your community, neighbors, and co-workers now.
“The inventor … looks upon the world and is not contented with things as they are. He wants to improve whatever he sees, he wants to benefit the world; he is haunted by an idea. The spirit of invention possesses him, seeking materialization.”
Alexander Graham Bell
Aquarius energy is excellent for radical ideas, analysis and study. When you look back over how you have spent your days over the past six months, you may find that you have been challenged by new ways of thinking, shocks and surprises. Despite all of the unexpected, please remember that since you are still here, you are capable of evolution and growth.
This particular lunar phase comes in with just a few noteworthy aspects, which continue to stimulate both opportunity and change for us, individually as well as collectively. The intellectual is blurred with the emotional and that may reach a crescendo now. Stay grounded in faith and optimism to come through ahead.
First, the emotional moon forms a positive alliance with Chiron in decisive and impatient Aries. Chiron is the asteroid that represents all types of wounds and the ability to heal from them. So, radical healing happens FAST with this aspect!
Next the moon squares off against rebel-rousing Uranus in stubborn Taurus. Beware of tempers and intensity coming to a head with this combination. It might not take much spark to ignite an inferno, so stay mindful and careful during this period.
The two most significant factors with this full moon involve the powerhouse planets of Mercury, Saturn, Mars and Jupiter. The areas they rule will be most affected, specifically: our communications, discipline, action, and opportunities. Expect some extra intensity that may prove inspiring or even cathartic.
Let’s break it down: Communicator Mercury in domestic Cancer prefers to stay home and focus on family. And this approach is at odds with disciplinarian Saturn in goal-oriented Capricorn. Compromise must be found between our focus on seeking comfort and our duties of getting tasks done.
Meanwhile, aggressive Mars in impulsive Aries wants to square off with benevolent Jupiter in ambitious Capricorn. Mars and Jupiter at odds brings added tension but it is not all bad as Jupiter tends to make the outcomes favorable, anyway. This increase in energy may actually boost motivation to seize opportunities and make progress especially on business goals and big opportunities now.
“Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless.”
Thomas Edison
As always, full moons bring difficult emotions to a head. While we do our best now to make sure we are all charitable and noble, we may find provocative or shocking outbursts are testing our resolve, which may incite hurt, stress, irritation and angst. Try to not take other people’s behavior personally, but do be aware of other people’s feelings and views.
The 2020 Aquarius full Moon is on Monday, August 3rd (exact at 8:59 am Pacific Time and 11:59 am Eastern Time). The Aquarius Full Moon loves technology, groups, and innovative ideas. It is an excellent time to do some online research or study. Also consider connecting with groups and friends through all the latest social media options.
“Technology is the campfire around which we tell our stories.”
Laurie Anderson
While the full moon does have a collective effect on all of us, each person may respond somewhat differently to this same planetary aspect. The intensity will be greater or lesser depending on how well aligned you have your current thoughts and feelings. When you are living in your highest truth, the environment and things that happen around you are not as overwhelming.
Try to remember that whatever is happening in your life is occurring as part of your life’s journey. Sometimes the details are pleasing and other times the lessons are difficult . .either way, there is always something to be learned. And being prepared as well as aspiring to your best life is the secret to more easily navigating all of it!
The highest intensity of the full moon energy lasts roughly three days before and after the exact date. But the implications go beyond that initial period and reverberate. The greatest effects tend to occur within the thirty (30) day period. Since there is generally only one full moon in each sign per year, the results can last up to six (6) months until the next new moon in the same sign.
You can always add to your reflections, gratitude, and celebrations. Look below to find your sun sign and/or rising sign and find out which areas of your life will most likely be affected by this Aquarius Full Moon for more inspiration:

Hi Joy, My sign is Libra but I have no idea what my rising sign is. What does the rising sign mean? Can you tell me what mine is?
Hi Deb,
Have you ever noticed how people born within the same sign might come across very differently? Mostly that is because even though the sun may have been in the same sign, depending on the exact time of day, the rising sign can be completely different. The rising sign also known as the Ascendant refers to the sign that was on the eastern horizon at the time of birth.
Simply put, while your SUN sign shows who you are at your core, your rising sign is the side of yourself you are most comfortable showing to others. It affects your basic personality and even your outer appearance. And more likely than not, it is not the same as your sun sign!
I can tell you your rising sign and any other planetary aspect or position in your chart when you provide your birth date, time (ideally hour and minute), and place of birth (city or town and country). When you know your rising sign, you can also begin to read horoscopes that are geared toward that sign and in some cases, you may find they resonate even more than your sun sign forecast.
Please send me a private email (joy@joystrongwisdom.com) with your birth details and I will reply with your rising sign.
